Background
Clinical epidemiology applies the principles of epidemiology to optimize health outcomes.Through data analysis of patient care such as disease screening, disease management, injuries, and causes of readmissions, illnesses can be prevented and quality of life can be enhanced thus improving Navy readiness.Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center provides program support for health service outcomes to ensure that Navy providers have the capability to continue to track the health of their population through the assessment of patient outcomes.
Objectives
- Review policy, programs and publications that pertain to metrics and management of health services outcomes.
- Develop, design, and conduct studies to identify health care outcomes such as re-hospitalizations, patient compliance, patient recovery time, clinical economics, medication compliance and effectiveness.
- Technical advisors for the implementation and development of Population Health Navigator
- Represent Navy Medicine on relevant boards and committees
- Identify trends for Health Care Acquired Infections and epidemiologically important organisms to ascertain risk and transmission mechanisms that can lead to increasing patient safety through changes in clinical practice.
- Provide support in the implementation of new/changing health metrics for Population Health Navigator Dashboard
- Health Services studies and projects that focus on healthcare utilization
- Health Readiness studies that focus on returning deployers
