The Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center has provided public health support for Navy and Marine Corps environmental cleanup sites and other environmental issues since 1991. We are staffed by public health experts to provide full-service consultation and support on public health issues.
The Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center is designated as the technical liaison between Navy and Marine Corps activities and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), which is part of the U.S. Public Health Service. ATSDR's job is to evaluate potential public health issues near hazardous waste or environmental cleanup sites. ATSDR prepares public health assessments, health studies, health consultations, health education programs, and toxicological profiles. Our role is to smoothly facilitate ATSDR health assessments and consultations at Navy and Marine Corps sites. A major part of this role is to review and comment on all ATSDR documents written for Navy and Marine Corps sites prior to publication. Our toxicologists also provide comments on ATSDR toxicological profiles and assist with toxicological research.
