Administration

The extensive experience and knowledge of the entomologists and preventive medicine personnel at NECE would be wasted without the outstanding support provided by the Administrative Department. Working behind the scenes for 50 years, expert planning and preparation and a "can-do" attitude has provided the driving force behind the successful completion of thousands of missions. Contact our administration department at NECE-ADMINDept@med.navy.mil.

The Administrative Department is comprised of:

Operations Department

The NECE Operations Department is the primary consulting resource for the Center, although the expertise resident within the various departments may be drawn upon for any particular problem. They provide direct support to Navy and Marine Corps units by conducting assist visits to ships and shore stations in support of pest management and environmental security programs. Operations personnel also conduct shipboard pest control training to certify shipboard personnel in the skills needed to keep this unique environment pest free, and they act as US Department of Agriculture inspectors for the pest-free certification of vehicles and cargo entering the U.S. after being deployed worldwide. Operations personnel often cooperate with government and academia to conduct basic research related to vector-borne disease transmission in the southeastern US and elsewhere. Finally, the department develops and disseminates in-depth, country-specific Vector Risk Assessment Profiles (VECTRAPS). Information databases and VECTRAPS are generated through internet searches, literature searches, personal contacts, and in-country visits. VECTRAPS are regularly updated can be forwarded to requesting agencies via hard-copy, disk or e-mail. If you would like to request a VECTRAP for a specific country or need additional information, please contact the Operations Department at NECE-OPSDept@med.navy.mil or Comm: (904) 542-2424; DSN 942-2424.

Testing and Evaluation

Our Center tests and evaluates novel pest control equipment, pesticides and control strategies. We provide state of the art aerosol droplet analyses for pesticide application equipment, calibration of pesticide dispersal equipment, and preventive maintenance on pesticide dispersal equipment for allied naval activities. We also conduct collaborative research with academic and vector control agencies in aerosol cloud dynamics, equipment development and the evaluation of pest management methods. To access these services, or if you would like to propose a collaborative project with NECE, contact our Testing and Evaluation Department at NECE-T&E@med.navy.mil.

Training Department

The NECE JAX Training Department conducts in-house and off-site training for seven courses listed in the Catalogue of Navy Training Courses (CANTRAC.) Three of these courses train civilian pesticide applicators who work on DoD installations, and a fourth recertifies licensed pesticide applicators. A fifth course, designed for reservists on two-week active duty training, is an introduction to the problems and solutions associated with vector-borne disease in the military. An advanced, two-week program in operational pest management prepares qualified preventive medicine personnel to establish a temporary public health pest management program where none exists, and to do so under extraordinary conditions. Finally, we offer an on-the-job training program that allows qualified military personnel to intern at our Center for two weeks Our Training Department can be reached at NECE-TrainingDept@med.navy.mil or
