The Acquisition Technical Support Department provides comprehensive support to Navy and Marine Corps activities, pertaining to the conduct of administrative health hazard assessments (AHHA) for new products, new uses for existing products, as well as procedures and processes. The products, procedures, and processes are identified by the prospective sponsor (assessment requestor), and the request for the assessment is sent to the Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center. Upon receipt of the request, the assessment is conducted, and the requestor is issued a report which provides the reviewer's assessment regarding the safe use of the product, procedure or process. A copy of the report is also provided to the Chief, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery. BUMEDINST 6270.8B provides additional information/guidance pertaining to this process.
