Occupational Injuries and Illness Care and Follow Up
- You have someone injured on the job.
- What are you supposed to do?
- What type of a condition is it?
- What paperwork is required?
HOW DOES NMCPHC HELP?
NMCPHC is working on a project with Commander Naval Installations to see if getting
physician opinion letters in the FECA claim files have an effect on the decisions that the
Office of Workers' Compensation at the Department of Labor make when they adjudicate
the claim. The goal of the program is to provide Agency input into the process and therby
make sure that accepted claims for occupational illness and injury are valid.
To date, NMCPHC has provided opinions in 90 cases. Claims that our doctors have
challenged for what we believe to be inappropriate diagnosis or not due to occupational
factors have resulted in denials in many of the cases. In an 18 month span, the cases have
amounted to over $9 million in cost avoidance for the Navy.
