Executes/supports all or part of the Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center's (NMCPHC) core functional responsibilities to:
- Provide technical and professional support/assistance to activities responsible for identifying, evaluating, monitoring, and correcting health hazards when the capabilities needed exceed those available at regional or local Navy public health activities.
- Conduct the annual occupational health and preventive medicine workshop.
- Identify, coordinate, develop, and review preventive medicine training programs when directed by BUMED.

Currently the Public Health Center has been assigned some or all of these types of responsibilities for the Department of Defense's Shipboard Sanitation Certification program, the Forward Deployable Preventive Medicine Units, the Navy Public Health Emergency Officer program, the Navy Disease Reporting System, the Navy tuberculosis control program, and Navy Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting.
- Advocate, develop, evaluate, and prioritize needs for Navy public health/preventive medicine policy in support of BUMED and other Navy operational-level commands.
- Inform and educate public health workforce, and customers about health issues and essential public health services via the web, the annual NMCPHC conference, and through additional training channels.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with appropriate agencies, boards, and organizations to solve public health/preventive medicine issues and carry out other defined NMCPHC functions.
- In addition to traditional public health functional responsibilities described in NMCPHC's mission related documents, we execute specific tasks in official directives, or specific tasks transmitted from higher headquarters by other means. For example, the Preventive Medicine staff provides direct strategic and logistic support to the Navy Public Heath Advisory Board.
